In a village not far from Mount Bromo, there lived a beautiful girl. His name is Rara Anteng. That said, when the girl was born, did not cry like a baby in general. Therefore, he is called Rara Anteng. The Javanese word anteng means not moving or calm.

 

Many young people applied for Rara Anteng, but all were rejected. There was a giant who had a bad face. His eyes are so big. Mustache, beard, and sideburns are very bushy. The giant also applied for Rara Anteng. Rara Anteng was very scared, he was afraid to declare his rejection because the giant would definitely be angry.

Rara Anteng said, "O giant, I want you to edit, as long as you are willing to fulfill my request!"

"Ha ha ha,... !" the giant laughter roared. "Say it quickly, I will definitely fulfill your request!"

"Change this Bromo mountain into a lake that you must finish overnight," said Rara Anteng. "Before daybreak and before the roosters crow, you must have prepared the lake so that I can use it to bathe."

Rara Anteng thought the giant could not carry out his request in such a short time.

Without saying much, the giant began to work. He dug up the lake around the Bromo Mountain. With a fairly large shell or shell, he throws dirt and stones. All night there was a roar. The trees in the forest, one by one, were pulled and thrown into the South Sea. The wild animals ran away in fear.

Rara Anteng is very nervous. It turns out that the giant is very enterprising. The night was still long, but the gigantic work was almost done. Rara Anteng is looking for reason. It was still night, outside in the dark. Rara Anteng hurriedly went to the barn. He took a pestle, then began pounding rice. The village women all woke up. They also pounded rice.

Hearing the sound of people pounding rice, the roosters were shocked. Roosters in all villages crowed.

What a surprise the giant heard a crowing rooster and the sound of pounding pestle. He rose to look eastward. It turned out that it was still dark. He also does not see sunlight at dawn.

The lake around Batok Mountain is almost complete, but it hasn't had time to fill it up yet. Now the lake is called Segara Wedi, which means sea of ​​sand because the lake is full of sand.
